Tower Crane Rises at Royal Inland Hospital

Construction of the new BC Cancer Centre at Royal Inland Hospital has reached a major milestone with the installation of the project’s first tower crane. The crane's appearance on Jan. 29 is a signal that vertical construction is set to begin.

Standing approximately 52 metres tall, the crane will unload and move construction materials across the site, hoisting key components such as structural steel, rebar and mechanical and electrical equipment. This crane improves efficiency and safety by reducing ground congestion and allows crews to safely access all areas of the build.

This is the first of two cranes that will support construction of the five-storey facility over the next two years. The second crane is planned for installation in March 2026.

We are another step closer to bringing radiation therapy and expanded cancer services closer to home for patients across the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap region.
