Phase 1 of the parking lot improvement project at KBRH is complete

Phase 1 of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) parking lot improvement project has been completed by Aug. 31, 2026, as planned. The newly improved northwest parking area reopened on Sept. 1, including paving, grading, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the safety and accessibility of the KBRH parking area.

"We'd like to extend a sincere thank you to School District 20 for providing temporary staff parking at J. Lloyd Crowe Secondary School during Phase 1 construction," said Lindsay Hetu, Chief Operating Officer, East Kootenay and Kootenay Boundary, Interior Health. "Their support helped keep hospital operations running smoothly while parking capacity was reduced."

With the reopening of the northwest parking area, this temporary parking arrangement has now concluded.

Additional staff parking options

Although parking availability at KBRH has improved, construction of the MRI expansion project continues, and some parking impacts remain. To help preserve convenient on-site parking for patients and visitors, downtown staff parking locations and the shuttle service will continue to be available for hospital staff. Phase 2 of the parking lot improvement project will begin in Summer 2027. These improvements are part of the KBRH MRI Suite Expansion project and represent an important investment in the KBRH campus for years to come.
