What is LINK-ED?

It’s a new way for doctors to deliver care, so people in rural communities can count on having more reliable access to emergency departments overnight.

LINK-ED stands for Local Integrated Network for Emergency Departments.

    How does it work?

When you arrive, a nurse will look into your concerns and may connect with a doctor in another community through a secure video or phone call.

If you need rapid, hands‑on care, a local doctor will come to the hospital to help.

What type of care can be provided through a virtual physician?

Virtual doctors can manage many of your urgent care concerns, like sprains, infections, and minor injuries. They can collaborate with local nursing staff, prescribe medication, order lab tests and arrange follow-up care.

During emergencies, a local doctor will be available to provide hands-on care. The role of a virtual doctor remains important at this stage because they can work with local staff to stabilize patients and coordinate rapid transfer to a hospital that can provide a higher level of care if needed.

Will my care be different because my doctor is remote?

No, your remote doctor will offer the same level of care as if they were physically present. They will work closely with the on-site health-care team to deliver seamless, high-quality care.

    Is my health information safe?

Yes. Only the health‑care providers directly involved in your care can see your information.

If you ever have questions or concerns, your care team is here to listen and make sure you feel comfortable and informed.
