Rebuilding the Lytton Health Centre

What's happening now

Interior Health has completed the concept plan for the new Lytton Health Centre following more than 18 months of engagement with community members, First Nations partners and health-care providers. The concept plan has been endorsed, and the project is now moving from planning what the future health centre could be to planning what it will be.

Finalizing health services

The current focus is developing the Clinical Services Plan, which will confirm the services to be offered, staffing levels, hours of operation and the overall model of care. This work will also define how services will be delivered in partnership with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), the Primary Care Network (PCN) and other health partners, including emergency care and patient transport.

Community members, First Nations partners and health-care providers will continue to be involved as this work progresses.

Designing the new health centre

As service planning is finalized, work will begin on designing the permanent facility. Planning will include the building layout, clinical and cultural spaces, staff housing and the infrastructure needed to support future services.

Early capital planning work is already underway so the project is ready to move into detailed design as approvals are received.

Continuing engagement

Engagement remains an important part of this project. Interior Health will continue working closely with the Village of Lytton, the Nlaka'pamux Nation, Lytton First Nation, Nicomen, Siska, Skuppah, Kanaka Bar, Cook's Ferry and other health partners throughout the planning process.

Funding and approvals

Interior Health will continue working with the Ministry of Health to secure the funding and approvals needed to move the project forward. This includes both capital funding for construction and operating funding to support future staffing and services.

Looking ahead

Once planning, design and approvals are complete, construction of the new Lytton Health Centre can begin.

The future facility is planned to include:

• Expanded primary care, seven days a week

• Mental health and substance use services

• Indigenous wellness and culturally safe care

• Laboratory and diagnostic services

• Partnerships supporting seniors care and assisted living

The long-term goal is to open a permanent health centre within approximately three to five years, providing team-based care, improved access to same-day and next-day appointments, and stronger connections to emergency services.
